When reporting bugs, or asking questions, please be as specific as possible. Name your operating system (e.g. Windows 7, 64 Bit), your JAVA version (e.g. Java 6, 32 Bit), whether you are using the latest Docear version, and provide step-by-step instructions that allow to reproduce the bug or problem you are reporting. Hello Docear community,

It has been a little bit quiet around Docear recently, but it's not about us being lazy. 😉

What's new
Have you ever tested our literature recommendations feature? Have you noticed that the quality of our recommendations differ from being already decently good to being absolutely pointless?

Our scientific field of work includes recommender systems based on mind maps and we are currently validating and comparing various approaches and their usefulness. The different algorithms and their parameters are currently chosen randomly, hence the changing quality. We will release the results of our work very soon and share the outcome with you.

If you want to help us, or if you just want to get a glimpse about new and probably much better recommendations, please download this new experimental version of Docear and test it.
If you can't find any critical bugs, we will release this version as a new beta version of Docear on Tuesday and implement the necessary changes to our web service.

Changelog
Apart from our heavy work on the literature recommender we have fixed some very critical bugs - on the one hand by merging with the latest stable version of Freeplane (Docear's mind mapping core) and on the other hand by fixing the following issues directly in Docear:

Feature improvements include:
#672 Create BibTeX keys automatically when database is saved Reference Mgmt

Bug fixes include:
#724 NPE occured after starting Docear
#714 error occured when using XMP metadata import
#722 Metadata retrieval "crashes" for non-registered users
#720 fixed errors on opening / deleting mind maps in Docear
#716 Incoming mind map did not have monitoring attributes under certain circumstances
#721 Error in Update Notifier
#723 "Copy reference keys..." menu entry was full of bugs
#668 Hyperlinks to open folders did not always work
#625 double check PDF-XCV compatibility settings
#665 Recognize linked PDFs based on Hash (content based) rather then file name
