Good organizing tool for grad students
When I started grad school, I immediately knew that I'll need some good organizing tools. I turned to the world of free and open source software to come up with a tool box to fulfill my needs. One of the sharpest tools in my box till date is Docear. Its already a year past and I'm looking forward to the next year. Thanks to Docear and the set of software with which it works pretty well.
One of the best tools I use
Docear is one of the best tools which helped me writting my thesis. I used it for minmapping my papers and structuring the chapters and sections of my thesis. Furthermore i used the links to be able to open all my important documents directly from docear. Thx to the dev-team.
I hope the development goes on since there is still a lot of potential for this tool!

Docear is a perfect tool for postgraduate students in emerging markets. My university allows students to have free access to EndNote, and I do not use that facility. However, JabRef is well known and used.
The strength of the package is that it allows one to develop maps hierarchically. One can click between maps. This allows one to develop the conceptual and methodological sections of a thesis or paper independently and then to bring these together in a coherent total document that can be output into MS Word or OpenOffice compatible formats. One of my doctoral students wrote his entire thesis in this manner and then output it to word processor format for the final edits.
I have had dozens of students use the package and none have reported problems.
Does not work
I installed and it never worked always fails to open, and let the logo on the screen, just do it.
Very good tool. That´s what i was looking for. Great potential and excellent software for organizing literature and ideas.
This is a real potential tool. Mind mapping the first step for change your own conclusions. Excellent Software.
